The UN Health Care Center (UNHCC) in Addis Ababa plays a vital role in delivering preventive care, medical coordination, and staff wellness initiatives for all UN staff and their dependents in Ethiopia.

Internship Summary

The selected Intern will support the Preventive Health and Wellness Unit at UNHCC by coordinating health promotion programs, managing communication campaigns, supporting food safety and infection prevention activities, and contributing to public health program planning and evaluation.

This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience within the United Nations system, working on meaningful initiatives that impact the health and wellbeing of UN personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Health Promotion & Event Coordination

  • Organize key health awareness campaigns including Adolescent Life Skills Education (Aug 2025) and Diabetes Wellness Week (Nov 2025)
  • Liaise with stakeholders and wellness champions for successful event execution

Communication & Media

  • Produce and distribute UNHCC Bimonthly E-Newsletters aligned with WHO Health Days
  • Ensure coverage of all health promotion events via digital platforms
  • Develop outreach content and manage social media presence

Public Health Monitoring

  • Assist in food safety inspections of UNECA cafeterias and document findings
  • Compile and manage Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) SOPs and resources
  • Support planning and execution of IPC training for healthcare staff

Administrative Support

  • Track action items from compound advisory meetings
  • Distribute DHMOSH Clinical Pathways and audit updates to clinicians
  • Assist in logistical coordination of health programs and trainings

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Run client satisfaction surveys for the UNHCC
  • Support program reporting, data collection, and impact assessments

Job Requirements

Academic Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (Master’s or equivalent) in Public Health or a related field
  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a Bachelor’s program in public health, social sciences, or related disciplines

Note: No prior work experience is required.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Knowledge of French is an asset

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative spirit
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Ability to design outreach materials and engage through digital media
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Internship Terms & Conditions

  • Remuneration: This internship is unpaid
  • Interns are responsible for their own travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses
  • Interns must ensure they have valid work authorization for Ethiopia if not a local resident
  • This internship provides an official UN reference and certification upon completion
