About MSF-Belgium and the Korem Project
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a leading international, independent medical humanitarian organization providing emergency medical assistance to populations in distress. Since March 2023, MSF-Belgium has been supporting Korem General Hospital to address critical health gaps caused by conflict and instability in the region. Services include Emergency Care, ITFC (for malnourished children), Pediatrics, Neonatal ICU, Mental Health, and CEmONC.
The project also runs outreach support to multiple health centers, with a 2025 strategy to help four fixed centers return to full operational capacity. Frequent emergency interventions continue in Korem and surrounding areas.
Job Summary
The Medical Doctor will provide inpatient and outpatient medical care at Korem General Hospital and through outreach activities. The role involves clinical diagnosis and treatment, supervision of medical staff, and adherence to MSF’s protocols and ethical guidelines to improve patient outcomes and ensure a high standard of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct medical consultations and inpatient follow-ups based on MSF clinical protocols
- Ensure proper communication with patients and their families regarding diagnoses and treatments
- Monitor the progress of hospitalized patients and coordinate transfers or discharges
- Supervise the quality and sterilization of medical tools and hygiene practices
- Train and guide the multidisciplinary medical team
- Contribute to data collection, case analysis, and outbreak monitoring
- Uphold patient confidentiality, infection control standards, and universal precautions
- Manage and evaluate team members’ performance and organize shift rotations
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Essential: Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree
- Desirable: Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Doctor
- Desirable: Background in Tropical Medicine, Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases, HIV/AIDS, TB, Obstetrics, General Practice
Skills:
- Strong clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a multicultural, high-pressure environment
