About the World Bank Ethiopia Country Office
The World Bank supports Ethiopia with a robust energy and financial sector development portfolio. Ongoing programs include:
- Power sector reforms
- Transmission, distribution, and grid electrification projects
- Solar mini-grids and standalone solar systems
- Clean cooking and improved stoves initiatives
- Regional electricity interconnection projects
Through these initiatives, the World Bank aims to expand access to energy, strengthen financial systems, and support Ethiopia’s inclusive growth agenda.
Position: Financial Sector Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support analytical work, lending operations, and policy discussions in Ethiopia’s financial sector.
- Provide expertise in financial stability, financial inclusion, and sector deepening.
- Engage with government counterparts, development partners, IFC, and regional stakeholders.
- Contribute to SME development by strengthening financial sector systems.
- Collaborate across the World Bank Group on cross-cutting development initiatives.
Selection Criteria & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Business, Management, Economics, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in financial stability, inclusion, or sector development.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing lending operations and leading analytical work.
- Familiarity with World Bank Group products, policies, and trust funds.
- Strong policy engagement skills with the ability to influence national-level discussions.
- Demonstrated experience working with international organizations, donors, or financial sector stakeholders.
- Experience in Ethiopia and the Africa region preferred.
- Excellent English writing, communication, and presentation skills.
