Position 1: Financial Sector Specialist
Overview:
The World Bank seeks a Financial Sector Specialist to support its financial inclusion and stability agenda in Ethiopia. The role involves policy engagement, analytical work, and project delivery within Ethiopia’s evolving financial landscape.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, Business, or related fields
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in financial sector policy, regulation, or development
- Strong understanding of financial stability, inclusion, and deepening within the Ethiopian context
- Proven record in project design, lending operations, and analytical work (ASAs)
- Familiarity with World Bank Group policies, products, and Trust Funds
- Demonstrated ability to lead policy dialogue and influence reforms
- Excellent writing and presentation skills in English
- Prior experience with international organizations or donors preferred
Preferred Experience:
- Engagement with SME finance, digital financial services, or capital markets
- Experience working collaboratively across teams and institutions, including IFC and development partners
Position 2: Lead Economist
Overview:
The Lead Economist will guide the World Bank’s macroeconomic analysis, policy dialogue, and lending operations in Ethiopia. The role involves producing high-impact research, supporting fiscal management, and advising government counterparts on growth and development policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Economics with at least 12 years of relevant professional experience
- Strong analytical expertise in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and growth strategy
- Proven experience leading development policy operations and complex analytical work
- Deep knowledge of World Bank lending instruments and procedures
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences
- Excellent client engagement and diplomatic skills
- Track record of policy impact and cross-sectoral integration
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with countries undergoing economic transition or structural reform
- Ability to identify new analytical and operational opportunities in development policy
