Position: Senior Portfolio Manager (SEO Grade)
The British Embassy is seeking two experienced and strategic Senior Portfolio Managers to support the delivery of UK development programmes in Ethiopia. This role is ideal for candidates with a proven track record in managing complex donor-funded projects and strong leadership in programme management systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead procurement, mobilisation, and implementation of high-value programmes across humanitarian, governance, education, climate, and economic growth sectors
- Manage programme risk, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and value for money
- Line-manage and mentor programme management staff and build internal delivery capacity
- Serve as a senior cross-team advisor on best practices in programme design, delivery, and M&E
- Engage with UK government colleagues, delivery partners, and local/international stakeholders
- Drive strategic performance and compliance across a diverse aid portfolio
What We Are Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing complex development programmes, preferably in fragile or low-income settings
- Demonstrated leadership and staff management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to present strategic advice to senior stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and risk in donor-funded environments
- Resilient, adaptable, and effective in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
Desirable Experience:
- Familiarity with UK Government ODA systems is a plus
- Experience collaborating with international stakeholders such as the UN, World Bank, INGOs, and private sector actors
