Mullege PLC, one of Ethiopia’s leading green Arabica coffee exporters, is seeking a motivated and passionate professional to join its quality control team as a Junior Cupping Officer.
With more than three decades of experience in the coffee industry, Mullege PLC has built a strong reputation in international coffee markets, supplying premium Ethiopian coffee to customers across four continents. The company operates two major coffee processing plants in Addis Ababa and several coffee pulping stations throughout Ethiopia.
POSITION: JUNIOR CUPPING OFFICER
Educational Qualification
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:
- Plant Sciences
- Food Science
- Agronomy
- Applied Chemistry
- Or a closely related field
Experience
- 0–1 year of relevant work experience
- Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong passion for the coffee industry and willingness to learn are highly valued
Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Excellent sensory abilities, including a strong sense of taste and smell
- High attention to detail for coffee grading and laboratory measurements
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database entry
- Basic understanding of quality control procedures
Soft Skills
- Good communication skills in Amharic
- Functional English language skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure
- Team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn
Key Responsibilities
1. Export Sample Processing & Setup
- Receive and manage incoming green coffee samples from suppliers and processing stations
- Ensure proper identification and prevent sample contamination
- Roast coffee samples according to standard laboratory roasting profiles
- Grind samples following Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) protocols
- Prepare sensory evaluation stations and maintain testing standards
2. Sensory Evaluation & Quality Support
- Participate in coffee cupping sessions with senior cupping professionals
- Evaluate aroma, acidity, body, flavor, and overall coffee quality
- Conduct physical inspections for defects and moisture levels
- Assist in grading and classification of coffee varieties including:
- Sidamo
- Yirgacheffe
- Guji
- Jimma
- Other specialty and commercial coffee profiles
3. Data Management & Documentation
- Record cupping scores and laboratory measurements accurately
- Maintain coffee traceability records and database entries
- Track sample numbers, warehouse codes, and lot information
- Support quality assurance documentation processes
