Position Title: Project Medical Referent Support
Location: Afar Region, Ethiopia
Type of Contract: Full-time | Fixed-term (1 Year)
Salary: $1,509/month (Basic Salary) + Benefits (as per MSF policy)

JOB PURPOSE
MSF is seeking a Project Medical Referent Support to assist the Project Medical Referent (PMR) with medical and administrative tasks, stakeholder coordination, staff health management, and field team supervision. This role ensures quality medical service delivery in line with MSF protocols and public health standards, particularly in the Afar Region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Program Coordination
- Supervise and evaluate medical activities within the project.
- Support implementation of MSF medical protocols, hygiene standards, and infection control.
- Ensure quality patient follow-up in collaboration with the health structure’s PMR.
Stakeholder Liaison
- Attend regional coordination meetings (e.g., Nutrition & Health Clusters).
- Maintain relationships with key external stakeholders (RHB, Dubti Hospital, NGOs, WHO, UNICEF).
- Coordinate with Dubti Hospital and regional blood bank to support ITFC patients.
National Staff Health
- Conduct consultations for national staff and dependents.
- Manage referrals and reimbursement processes per staff health policy.
- Evaluate and approve new healthcare providers in collaboration with finance.
Outreach Nutrition Team Oversight
- Coordinate Outreach Mobile Nutrition Teams.
- Conduct supervision, trainings, chart reviews, and data reporting.
- Ensure compliance with MSF protocols and team cohesion.
Emergency Response
- Monitor and assess public health trends and outbreaks.
- Participate in outbreak responses, assessments, and reporting.
- Coordinate field campaigns aligned with regional health strategies.
Reporting & Documentation
- Support data collection, reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual), and archiving.
- Assist in departmental and project-level report generation.
Leadership Backup
- Act as PMR when required during absences.
- Participate in team briefings, debriefings, and cross-departmental discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Medical Doctor (MD) with a valid professional license (required)
- Public health/tropical medicine training (desirable)
Experience:
- At least 3 years in similar medical roles, preferably in NGOs
- Proven emergency response experience
- Medical team leadership experience
- MSF or humanitarian sector experience (preferred)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Language: Fluent in English and local languages
- IT Skills: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
