ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2025–26 is one of the world’s most prestigious international scholarships, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It supports outstanding students from outside the UK to pursue full-time postgraduate degrees (Master’s or PhD) at the University of Cambridge, aiming to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.
A total of 90 scholarships are awarded annually to exceptional students worldwide.
FINANCIAL BENEFITS
This is a Fully Funded UK Scholarship. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers:
- Full University composition fees
- Annual maintenance allowance (£20,000/year)
- Economy-class round-trip airfare to and from the UK
- Inbound visa and Immigration Health Surcharge costs
Additional discretionary funding may include:
- Academic development funding (£500–£2,000)
- Family allowance (£11,604 to £16,548)
- Fieldwork allowance (PhD only)
- Maternity/paternity support
- Hardship funding (if needed)
AVAILABLE STUDY FIELDS
Applicants can pursue any full-time postgraduate course (except restricted courses) at the University of Cambridge, including:
- School of Arts and Humanities
- School of Biological Sciences
- School of Clinical Medicine
- School of Physical Sciences
- School of Technology
- School of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Interdisciplinary Institutes
NOT ELIGIBLE courses:
- Undergraduate degrees (e.g., BA)
- Master of Business (MBA)
- Master of Finance (MFin)
- PGCE, MBBChir, MD (Doctor of Medicine)
- Part-time degrees or non-degree courses
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of any country outside the UK (U.S. citizens are eligible)
- Apply for one of the following Cambridge programs:
- PhD (full-time)
- MSc/MLitt (full-time)
- One-year postgraduate course (full-time)
- Exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential, commitment to improving lives, and a good fit with Cambridge

- Statement of purpose
- Research proposal (for PhD applicants)
- Gates Cambridge specific reference letter
SELECTION PROCESS
