Mizan Lawyers Center (MLC), formerly known as Mizan Young Lawyers Center (MYLC), is a board-led Civil Society Organization established by ten public-spirited lawyers who graduated from Dilla University. The Center works to promote access to justice and human rights through free legal aid services, advocacy, legal awareness, civic education, capacity building, and public interest litigation.
MLC primarily serves economically disadvantaged communities and provides legal assistance in civil and criminal matters at all stages of proceedings, including pre-trial, trial, and post-trial phases. The Center is a pioneer in providing pre-trial legal aid within police stations in Sidama and South Ethiopia Regional States
Position: Assistance Lawyer
The Assistance Lawyer will provide free legal aid services to economically disadvantaged individuals, support access to justice initiatives, and contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights through legal representation, advocacy, and community engagement.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)
- Work Experience: 0 years (Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply)
Professional Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate sufficient knowledge of:
- The Ethiopian legal system
- Ethiopian criminal justice system
- Criminal and procedural laws of Ethiopia
- Constitutional right to access to justice through legal aid
- National and international legal frameworks on the rights of arrested persons, particularly at police station level
Personal Qualities & Skills
- Ability to explain legal matters clearly in non-legal language
- Strong passion for justice, fairness, and human rights
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
- Proactive, goal-oriented, and results-driven mindset
- Flexible, creative, and adaptable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in English and Amharic
- Knowledge of Wolaita local language is highly preferred
- Strong computer and internet usage skills
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills
