About UNOAU
The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was established by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/288 on July 1, 2010, to strengthen the partnership between the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU) in the area of peace and security. UNOAU integrates the mandates and operations of three former UN offices that supported the AU and its peacekeeping operations in Africa.
UNOAU is a critical hub for diplomacy, peace operations, and policy coordination between two of the world’s largest multilateral institutions, based in Addis Ababa, the political capital of Africa.
Position Summary: Intern – Public Information (Digital Communications)
UNOAU invites qualified and motivated individuals to apply for an internship in Digital Communications within the Public Information Unit. The internship offers an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in digital media, international communications, and the strategic outreach of global peace and development institutions.
This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking experience in a multilateral, multicultural, and mission-driven environment.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must satisfy one of the following academic criteria at the time of application:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate school program (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent)
- Recently graduated from a graduate program (within the past year)
- Currently enrolled in the final year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
- Recently graduated from a Bachelor’s program (within the past year)
Field of Study: Applicants must come from a field closely related to the internship’s focus, including:
- Communications
- Media Studies
- Journalism
- Public Relations
- Digital Marketing or related fields
Note: Work experience is not required, but the academic background must be closely aligned with the duties of the internship. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or recent graduation with their application.
Key Responsibilities
Interns in the Digital Communications stream may be expected to:
- Assist in the development and management of content for UNOAU’s digital platforms
- Contribute to social media campaigns and multimedia materials
- Support press monitoring, media outreach, and event communications
- Draft digital content such as news updates, press releases, and infographics
- Perform other duties as assigned within the Public Information Unit
