About the Scholarships
Deakin University offers two of the most competitive and fully funded research scholarships in Australia:
- RTP (Research Training Program Scholarship) – funded by the Australian Government
- DUPR (Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship) – funded by Deakin University
Both scholarships are open to domestic and international students, with top-performing candidates eligible for RTP offers. These scholarships aim to eliminate financial stress so students can focus entirely on their research journey.

Scholarship Benefits
Annual Stipend: AUD $35,550 (Tax-Free – 2025 Rate)
Relocation Allowance: Up to AUD $1,500
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC): Covered for entire student visa duration (International students)
Tuition Fee Offset:
- PhD: 4 years
- Research Master’s: 2 years
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
Be enrolled or enrolling in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program at Deakin
Be a domestic or international student
Not be receiving another similar award to cover HDR costs
Not have an external income exceeding 75% of the scholarship stipend
Hold a Bachelor’s degree with a strong research component (80% or above)
Currently enrolled HDR students may apply (within their first 3 years of PhD or 2 years of Master’s)
Selection Process
Scholarships are highly competitive and based on:
- Academic excellence (minimum 80% in research)
- Research potential and proposal strength
- Supervisor availability and research alignment
- Entry requirements met under Deakin’s HDR guidelines
