The prestigious Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) 2026, formerly known as the KGSP, is a fully-funded graduate scholarship program sponsored by the Korean government. The program selects over 2,000 international students from 155 countries to pursue Master’s or PhD degrees, or conduct research in South Korea.

Scholarship Benefits

The GKS is a fully-funded scholarship, covering the following:

Duration:

  • Master’s Program: 3 years (1 year language + 2 years degree)
  • PhD Program: 4 years (1 year language + 3 years degree)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be an international student (Korean citizens not eligible)
  • Applicant and parents must hold non-Korean citizenship
  • Must be under 40 years of age
  • Master’s applicants: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • PhD applicants: Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Research applicants: Official invitation from a Korean university required
  • Must be in good physical and mental health
  • Previous GKS recipients are not eligible

How to Apply

  • Apply directly to a single Korean university

Process:

  1. Submit all required documents to the university (transcripts, SOP, recommendation letter)
  2. University evaluates and nominates selected candidates to NIIED
  3. Submit original documents to NIIED for final approval
  4. NIIED announces final scholarship recipients
