About the Role

Population Council Ethiopia is implementing a mixed-methods study to assess the feasibility, acceptability, safety, continuation, and user experience of the Hormonal IUD (HIUD) in public health facilities.

As a Data Collector, you will conduct high-quality interviews with clients, providers, and key informants, maintain confidentiality, and work closely with facility staff and supervisors. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, ethical research knowledge, willingness to travel, and the ability to work independently.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Data Collection Tasks

  • Conduct baseline and follow-up interviews at 3, 6, and 12 months with HIUD users.
  • Administer provider and facility questionnaires.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews (IDIs) if assigned.
  • Record responses accurately in tablet-based tools (MQUAD).

Participant Management & Recruitment

  • Verify eligibility and obtain informed consent.
  • Maintain respectful and non-judgmental interactions.
  • Ensure participant privacy during interviews.
  • Track appointments and follow-ups.

Ethical & Confidentiality Responsibilities

  • Protect participant confidentiality at all times.
  • Safely handle any documents or digital devices with identifiable data.
  • Follow Do-No-Harm procedures for sensitive issues.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Maintain communication with facility staff and supervisors.
  • Submit daily completed forms and resolve data inconsistencies.
  • Participate in debriefings and refresher sessions.
  • Provide feedback on challenges related to recruitment, consent, or data tools.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, Health Extension (Level IV+) with strong experience.

Experience

  • 1–2 years in data collection for research, surveys, or evaluations.
  • Experience in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) or family planning studies is preferred.
  • Phone-based data collection experience is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Fluency in Amharic; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Afan Oromo in Oromia) is an advantage.
  • Excellent structured and semi-structured interviewing skills.
  • Competence in tablet-based data collection tools (MQUAD).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within assigned regions.
  • Female applicants preferred.
