The Embassy of Ireland in Addis Ababa leads Ireland’s engagement across Ethiopia and other accredited countries, focusing on diplomacy, development partnerships, cultural promotion, and communication.
Position: Public Diplomacy & Communications Officer
Role Summary
The Public Diplomacy & Communications Officer will report to the Second Secretary and work closely with all Embassy staff. This role is central to promoting Ireland’s values, culture, and partnerships in Ethiopia and beyond through communications, public relations, digital outreach, and event management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead digital media strategy and content creation for social media (X, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok)
- Manage public relations and press engagement activities
- Coordinate and execute public diplomacy events and Embassy outreach programs
- Draft press releases, speeches, and other communications materials
- Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment
- Develop high-quality audiovisual content to support Embassy initiatives
- Build and maintain networks with local and international stakeholders
- Collaborate with Embassy teams and international partners to ensure a unified communications approach
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations)
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in PR, media, communications, or content creation
- Experience in event management and digital media
- Strong command of English and Amharic (written and spoken); knowledge of additional regional languages is a plus
- Demonstrated ability in editorial production of audio and video content
- Strong digital skills, including experience using social media analytics tools and multimedia platforms
- Proven organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, and team collaboration skills
- Understanding of embassy or international development work is desirable
- Legal eligibility to live and work in Ethiopia
Selection Process
- Shortlisting will be based on the essential requirements
- Technical assessments and competency-based interviews are planned for late July or early August 2025
- A second interview or candidate panel may be included depending on applicant volume
