Organization Overview
Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an Italian humanitarian NGO founded in 1965 and operating in Ethiopia since 1995. COOPI implements emergency, relief, and recovery programs in areas such as Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Food Security, Energy, Livelihoods, and Nutrition. Currently managing 8 active projects across 7 field offices with over 100 staff members, COOPI’s work is focused on responding to crises and supporting community resilience.
Internship Summary
COOPI is offering a 6-month internship for a highly motivated graduate to join its Program Sector as a WASH Technical Officer under the Energy project. The role is based in Addis Ababa and aims to provide hands-on experience in humanitarian WASH programming, technical design, and MEAL support. This is an excellent opportunity for young professionals aspiring to work in the humanitarian field.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the technical assessment, design, and implementation of WASH infrastructure projects.
- Draft Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for WASH facilities construction.
- Assist in hygiene and sanitation promotion activities and field-level community mobilization.
- Collaborate on data collection using tools such as Kobo, GIS, and carbon finance-related software.
- Ensure compliance with SPHERE Standards and other international WASH guidelines.
- Assist in carbon credit data management related to WASH interventions.
- Participate in report drafting and MEAL documentation for WASH and energy-related programs.
- Provide support to field teams and program management as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Hydraulic Engineering.
- Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Kobo Toolbox, GIS, and carbon finance tools.
- Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience drafting technical designs and BoQs for WASH projects.
- Familiarity with SPHERE Standards and hygiene promotion techniques.
- Knowledge of carbon credit certification processes and data requirements.
- Technical experience with fitting and pipe installation.
- Comfortable working in high-pressure environments.
Internship Details
- Duration: 6 months
- Starting Date: As soon as possible
- Compensation: Monthly reimbursement of 6,000 ETB
- Location: Coordination Office, Addis Ababa
