About the Role
The AMR Surveillance System Data Officer will work under the WHO Health Emergencies Programme in Ethiopia, supporting the Pandemic Fund Ethio Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) project. The role focuses on managing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance data, supporting surveillance sites with WHONET data entry, analysis, and reporting, and contributing to strengthening the national AMR surveillance system at the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI).
The incumbent will report to the EPPR Project Manager and work closely with the AMR surveillance coordination team at EPHI.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize, store, and analyze AMR surveillance data with attention to confidentiality and security.
- Develop and implement data management plans, procedures, and platforms.
- Ensure timely and accurate data flow between surveillance sites and national repositories.
- Provide technical support for data cleaning, encoding, and reporting at central and site levels.
- Conduct advanced statistical analyses using software such as SPSS, R, and Stata.
- Prepare monthly datasets and reports, and respond to data requests.
- Lead data management trainings and prepare high-quality manuals, SOPs, and procedures.
- Establish data quality standards and monitor compliance across surveillance sites.
- Apply national and institutional data sharing policies effectively.
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Biostatistics, Information Systems, or related field.
- Desirable: Master’s degree (MSc or above) in a related field.
Experience:
- Essential: Minimum 2 years in the health sector.
- Desirable: More than 2 years in health sector data management.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of AMR surveillance systems and epidemiology.
- Competency in statistical data collection, assessment, and analysis.
- Proficiency in WHONET, Backlink, MS Excel, and MS Office Suite.
- Ability to multitask in high-demand environments and work with diverse teams.
- Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
Languages:
- Essential: Excellent knowledge of Amharic and English.
- Desirable: Additional languages are an advantage.
