Position Summary
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Advocacy & External Engagement Intern to join our African Union Liaison Office in Addis Ababa. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy research, AU engagement, advocacy strategy, and humanitarian diplomacy.
The role is designed to support the AU Advocacy and External Engagement team through research, planning, documentation, and coordination aligned with our AU Partnership Strategy and MoU agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and logistical support to advocacy and external engagement initiatives.
- Conduct research and policy analysis on child rights and humanitarian issues.
- Assist in planning and organizing forums and workshops involving multiple countries.
- Take meeting notes, support reporting tasks, and assist in drafting advocacy materials.
- Support coordination and communication with AU stakeholders and internal teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Law, Communication, or Management.
- Additional training in advocacy, policy influence, or child rights is a strong advantage.
Experience:
- Academic or internship experience in advocacy, campaigns, external engagement, or policy work.
- Understanding of child rights frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and ACRWC.
- Exposure to humanitarian and fragile contexts is desirable.
- Prior experience organizing multi-country events or policy forums is beneficial.
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a cross-cultural context.
- Strong research, planning, and coordination capabilities.
- Networking and relational skills, with an understanding of African Union structures considered a plus.
