The Young Professionals in Public Health (YPPH) Programme is designed to empower early-career professionals and recent graduates interested in public health. It builds practical skills, knowledge, and networks to support leadership in public health, particularly across West Africa.
About the Academy of Public Health (APH)
APH is a professional body dedicated to strengthening public health practice and capacity in Africa. It focuses on training, certification, competency building, and membership, operating as a special purpose vehicle of the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH).
Mission: Develop the next generation of multidisciplinary public health leaders.
YPPH Programme Tracks
The YPPH Programme has three tracks tailored to different experience levels and professional goals:
1) Design, Equity, Action and Leadership (DEAL) Fellowship
- Target Age: 30–40 years
- Education/Experience: First degree + 5 years work experience, or Master’s + 3 years work experience
- Focus Areas: Competency building, mentoring/coaching, design thinking, equity & social justice, action-oriented leadership
- Format: 100% online, participants can join from anywhere (align with WAT working hours)
- Duration: 3 months
- Compensation: Unpaid
- Geography: Open worldwide
2) Health Literacy and Leadership Programme (HLLP)
- Target Age: 25–35 years
- Focus: Builds advocacy and leadership skills to strengthen health literacy as a pillar of public health education and universal health coverage
- Participants: Young emerging public health leaders and journalists
3) Virtual Internship Programme (VIP)
- Target Audience: Recent graduates
- Format: Online, structured as a remote alternative to traditional internships
- Focus: Health education, health literacy, and youth engagement
- Impact: Over 150 youth have benefited across West Africa
