Job Summary: Medical Doctor – SC 10
WFP Ethiopia seeks an experienced Medical Doctor to provide primary and emergency healthcare services in Bokh as part of its EMAT team. The successful candidate will oversee the clinic and ALS ambulance operations, deliver high-quality medical care, ensure public health preparedness, and coordinate medical evacuations for UNHCR staff and dependents.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive primary care and emergency stabilization (BLS/ALS/PHTLS)
- Lead management of ALS ambulance and emergency equipment
- Handle trauma, infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, and referrals
- Coordinate medical evacuations and liaise with other UN doctors
- Provide mental health support and organize CME sessions and emergency drills
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure patient confidentiality
- Conduct entry and periodic medical screenings
- Promote health awareness, vaccinations, and disease prevention
- Support outbreak surveillance and emergency response readiness
- Ensure clinic inventory, pharmaceutical supplies, and equipment functionality
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent from an accredited university
- Valid license as a General Practitioner in Ethiopia
- Desirable: Advanced training in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care
- Certifications such as ACLS, PHTLS preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years post-graduate clinical experience
- At least 3 years in emergency/primary care settings
- Previous work in remote or humanitarian contexts is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical expertise in trauma, emergency response, and chronic disease management
- Skilled in operating emergency medical equipment (ventilators, cardiac monitors)
- Strong leadership and decision-making under high-pressure conditions
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and local languages
- Digital literacy in health records systems and medical inventory tools
- Training and facilitation abilities for health-related workshops
- High ethical standards and professional integrity
