ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Victoria University of Wellington Scholarship 2025 (also known as the Tongarewa Scholarship) offers fully and partially funded opportunities for international students pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in New Zealand. This is an exceptional opportunity to study at a world-class university, ranked 215th globally by QS World University Rankings 2023.
Students with strong academic records who are beginning their first year of undergraduate or postgraduate studies are highly encouraged to apply.
SCHOLARSHIP VALUE
- Undergraduate & Master’s Students:
- 10 scholarships worth NZ$10,000
- 9 scholarships worth NZ$5,000 (for Master’s only)
- PhD Students:
- 110 awards with NZ$27,500 annual stipend + full tuition fees
- Duration: One academic year
- Closing Dates:
- Trimester 1: November 1
- Trimester 2: May 1
- Trimester 3: August 1, 2025
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for the Victoria University of Wellington Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be international students paying full tuition fees
- Be new students beginning undergraduate or postgraduate programs
- Have an offer of place at Victoria University of Wellington
- Submit a personal statement (max 500 words) detailing:
- Why you chose the university
- Your academic and career goals
- Why you deserve the scholarship
- Leadership roles and community involvement
INELIGIBILITY
You are not eligible if you:
- Completed secondary education in New Zealand
- Completed a Foundation or English Proficiency Program at Victoria University
- Are in your second year of study
- Are on a Study Abroad or partner university exchange
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- Conditional or unconditional offer letter from Victoria University
- Personal statement (max 500 words)
- Proof of extracurricular involvement or leadership (if applicable)
