The University of Brighton is now inviting applications for the International Visiting Research Fellowship 2025 in the United Kingdom. This fellowship is hosted by the Centre for Design History (CDH) and welcomes established international researchers to engage in collaborative work with Brighton’s vibrant research community.

The program provides a unique platform to collaborate on six key themes:

  • Architectural and spatial histories
  • Design activism
  • Fashion and textile histories
  • Museums and exhibitions
  • Sustainability in design
  • Transnationalism

Financial Benefits

The fellowship offers:

  • Up to £1,000 for travel, accommodation, and research-related expenses
  • £200 administrative support provided by CDH
  • Access to University of Brighton resources, including libraries, archives, seminars, campus facilities, and academic email
    ⚠️ Note: This fellowship does not include a salary or stipend. Applicants must have their own funds to support additional expenses.

Objectives

The International Fellowship aims to:

  • Integrate visiting scholars into CDH’s research culture
  • Foster collaboration with academics, curators, and designers in the UK
  • Strengthen international research networks in design history
  • Create opportunities for joint publications and projects
  • Enable fellows to present their work in a seminar during their stay

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Demonstrate an active research profile aligned with CDH’s thematic strands
  • Show commitment to collaborative and international research
  • Be available to conduct part of their research on-site in Brighton
    Note: Applicants who obtained their PhD within the last 24 months should apply for the CDH Post-doc Visiting Research Fellowship (VRF) scheme instead.
