About UNOAU

The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was established on 1 July 2010 by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/288 to strengthen the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union in peace and security. UNOAU supports collaboration, policy engagement, and operational coordination to advance stability in Africa.

The UN Secretariat encourages gender balance and geographical diversity. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, and living costs.

Internship Position: Intern

This internship provides practical exposure to multilateral cooperation, research, reporting, and institutional partnership work. It is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking experience in international organizations and African peace and security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support research, drafting, documentation, and reporting activities
  • Assist in compiling data, information management, and analytics
  • Contribute to communication and reporting tasks related to AU–UN partnerships
  • Use standard office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to support tasks
  • Engage in learning opportunities across UNOAU programs and initiatives

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate program (Master’s or higher) OR final year of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Academic backgrounds in International Relations, Political Science, Peace & Security Studies, African Studies, Public Policy, Gender Studies, Communications, Journalism, or related fields
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; advanced Excel and data visualization skills are a plus
  • Demonstrated interest in UN work and commitment to UN Charter ideals
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures and perspectives
  • No prior work experience required
