Position: Intern – Geospatial Information Management
Internship Overview
This exciting internship opportunity at UNECA offers exposure to cutting-edge work in geospatial information systems (GIS), sustainable urban planning, and environmental data analytics. Interns will contribute to projects that support Africa’s data-driven development initiatives
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet at least one of the following:
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s) in:
- Geography
- Geoinformatics
- Environmental Science
- Urban Planning
- Or a related field
Have recently graduated (within the past year) with a degree in the above areas.
Required Skills & Technical Qualifications
- Basic experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS)
- Understanding of geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, satellite imagery, geodatabases)
- Familiarity with web mapping applications is a plus
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is required; knowledge of French is an added advantage
- No prior professional work experience is required
Languages
- Required: English (fluency in oral and written)
- Desirable: French
Internship Conditions
- This is an unpaid internship.
- Interns are responsible for their own travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
- Non-resident candidates may need to arrange appropriate visa/work authorization before starting.
- Selected candidates must begin the internship within one year of graduation.
