About Center for Justice (CJ)
The Center for Justice (CJ) is a dedicated civil society organization working to reform Ethiopia’s criminal justice system. CJ advocates for human rights-based approaches in criminal justice, prioritizing the rights of vulnerable populations and promoting alternatives to imprisonment. Registered under the Federal Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO), CJ engages in legal aid, advocacy, prison reform, and human rights monitoring.
Position: Legal Expert
CJ is seeking a Legal Expert to lead and coordinate legal aid services, supervise interns, and provide technical legal expertise. This is a full-time position based in Addis Ababa, reporting to the Program and Advocacy Officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead legal aid service delivery under ongoing projects
- Supervise and mentor interns in legal aid clinics
- Represent vulnerable groups in court
- Develop project documents: TORs, concept papers, and activity plans
- Integrate international human rights standards in legal projects
- Collect, analyze, and report legal aid data on a monthly basis
- Coordinate with internal teams to enhance efficiency and impact
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Law (LL.B. or LL.M.)
Experience:
- 3–5 years of court experience (e.g., litigation, prosecution)
- Prior work in legal aid or civil society strongly preferred
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of national and international human rights frameworks
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities
- Fluent in English and Amharic (additional languages a plus)
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical integrity
