UNOPS hosts the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, a global platform that unites over 500 partners working to eliminate malaria, particularly in high-burden regions. The RBM Secretariat is headquartered in Geneva, with global engagements across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
About the Role
The Global Malaria Advisor plays a strategic leadership role in accelerating malaria elimination across multiple continents. Based in Addis Ababa and reporting directly to the CEO of the RBM Partnership, the Advisor will oversee global and regional malaria elimination strategies, coordinate with key institutions like the African Union and Africa CDC, and guide the implementation of the Big Push Against Malaria initiative.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Technical Advisory
- Provide executive-level insights on malaria elimination progress and emerging challenges.
- Advise the CEO on high-level strategies and risk mitigation.
- Lead strategic planning and contribute to the development of RBM’s strategic frameworks.
2. Regional Technical Coordination
- Design regional responses for malaria-related issues including drug resistance, climate change, and humanitarian settings.
- Act as focal point for regional frameworks and coordinate with AU, Africa CDC, and regional economic communities.
- Oversee regional and subregional strategies in areas like the Sahel, Great Lakes, Andean region, and South-East Asia.
3. Operational Oversight
- Supervise CRSPC workstreams and ensure alignment with RBM goals.
- Support program implementation, funding proposal reviews, and integrated elimination approaches.
- Lead performance tracking and strategic alignment of regional hubs.
4. Drive the “Big Push Against Malaria”
- Operationalize the Big Push initiative at continental and regional levels.
- Coordinate with donors, stakeholders, and multilateral agencies to mobilize resources.
- Lead technical partnerships and ensure policy coherence across regions.
Candidate Requirements
Education
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or related fields is required.
- A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a Master’s.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in public health program management, with at least 5 years at senior management level.
- At least 5 years of experience managing malaria projects or programs.
- Experience with malaria-endemic countries, regional institutions, and multi-stakeholder engagement is essential.
- Desirable experience: working in politically complex environments, digital health, regional partnerships, and funding mobilization.
Language
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of French or another UN language is highly desirable.
