About UNOPS – Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) was established in 2009 and manages operations in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. With its main office in Addis Ababa, HAMCO delivers services in infrastructure, procurement, project management, HR and transactional services, and fund management, supporting sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and resilient infrastructure.
The Finance Intern role is designed for recent graduates, offering hands-on learning in a professional environment while supporting the finance team in day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Finance Senior Officer, the Finance Intern will:
- Assist with treasury and payments functions.
- Provide accounting and administrative support.
- Support financial reporting and control processes.
- Facilitate knowledge building and sharing.
- Properly file financial documentation.
- Help prepare and review payment requests for compliance.
- Assist in project financial reporting.
- Support VAT refund claims and follow-ups.
- Contribute to budget preparation.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within last 3 years) from a university degree program, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
Experience
- No professional experience required.
- Knowledge of Google Suite applications is an advantage.
Language
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
Other Skills
- Computer literacy, especially Google Suite, is desirable.
Duty Station
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
