Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE) invites qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the position of Individual Legal Advisor. The Development Bank of Ethiopia is a specialized financial institution established to support the socio-economic development of the country by providing medium and long-term financing to viable projects that are underserved by the financial system.
The bank finances strategic sectors including irrigable mechanized commercial agriculture, modern livestock breeding farms, poultry breeding farms, and other development-oriented investment projects that contribute to Ethiopia’s economic growth.
DBE is seeking a highly qualified legal expert with extensive international project finance and banking law experience to provide legal advisory services on complex financing transactions and development finance operations.
POSITION: INDIVIDUAL LEGAL ADVISOR
Required Educational Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Minimum of LL.B Degree or equivalent qualification in:
- International Law
- Banking Law
- Commercial Law
- Finance Law
- Related legal fields
Work Experience Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Demonstrated expertise in English law-governed financing agreements
- Membership in a recognized Bar Association
- Qualification to practice English Law is highly preferred
- Extensive experience in international project finance transactions
- Proven experience working with:
- Development Finance Institutions (DFIs)
- Multilateral Development Banks
- International financing arrangements
- Strong experience in:
- Inter-creditor arrangements
- Security enforcement processes
- Post-enforcement legal procedures
Core Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong legal drafting skills
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent negotiation and legal advisory capabilities
- Experience working with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) or Multilateral Banks
- Proven track record in dispute resolution under international legal frameworks
- Ability to provide strategic legal guidance on complex financing transactions
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Scope of Engagement
The selected advisor will provide legal advisory services through:
- Retainer-based engagement
- Assignment-based engagement
- Remote advisory services
- On-demand in-person support when required
Terms of Employment
Contract Duration
- Initial contract period of 6 to 12 months
- Possibility of extension based on performance and organizational requirements
- Contract may also be terminated earlier based on operational needs
