About DAAD Helmut Schmidt Programme 2026
The German Government invites international students to apply for the DAAD Helmut Schmidt Programme 2026. This prestigious fully funded scholarship aims to support future leaders from developing countries who are committed to promoting social justice, good governance, and sustainable development in their home countries.
The program focuses on strengthening civil society and developing professional leaders in public policy, governance, law, economics, and related fields.
Selected scholars will study at top German universities and gain academic, professional, and cultural experience that will help them contribute effectively to their communities after graduation.
Financial Benefits
The DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship covers all major expenses, including:
- Full Tuition Fee Waiver
- Monthly Stipend of €934
- Health Insurance Coverage in Germany
- Round-Trip Airfare
- Study and Research Subsidy
- Monthly Rent Subsidy (if applicable)
- Allowances for Spouse and/or Children (if applicable)
- 6-Month Mandatory German Language Course
Note: The German language course is compulsory, even if the selected Master’s program is taught in English.

The scholarship supports selected Master’s programs such as:
- Analysis and Design of Social Protection Systems
- Management in Nonprofit Organization
- Governance and Public Policy
- Development and Governance
- Public Policy
- Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS)
- Development Studies
- Public Management (MPM)
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
- Have obtained their most recent degree within the last 6 years
- Be graduates in Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Economics, Public Administration, or related fields
- Be citizens of eligible developing countries
- Submit applications in German or English
- Meet the language requirements of the selected Master’s course
- Provide proof of relevant professional experience
- Sign a commitment to return to their home country after graduation

- Completed DAAD Application Form (hand-signed)
- One Motivation Letter (max. 2 pages)
- Signed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Academic Degree Certificates
- Transcript of Records
- Language Certificates (German and/or English)
- One Recommendation Letter (official letterhead, signed and stamped)
- Employment Certificates (if applicable)
Application Deadline
Applications are open from 1 June 2026 to 31 July 2026.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
