About the DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2026

The University of Freiburg, in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is offering the EPOS Scholarship 2026 for international students pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Governance (MEG). This scholarship is fully funded and targets young professionals from developing countries who have demonstrated leadership and academic excellence.

The program is part of the DAAD’s EPOS initiative, which supports postgraduate courses related to development in Germany. Candidates will be selected first by the university, followed by the final approval from DAAD.

Financial Coverage

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship at the University of Freiburg provides comprehensive financial support including:

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the University of Freiburg DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant field
  • Have a minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience (volunteering and internships not accepted)
  • Possess a degree obtained within the last six years (not older than October 2019)
  • Present an above-average academic record (upper third of your class)
  • Be from a developing or transition country (as defined by DAAD)
  • Must not have resided in Germany for more than 15 months prior to application
  • If holding a previous Master’s degree, applicants must clearly justify the need for a second postgraduate qualification
  • Work experience in academia (teaching/research) is not generally accepted, unless in exceptional cases

  • Completed DAAD Application Form
  • MEG Application Form
  • Online Application Form (OEA) result confirmation
  • Personal Statement
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Passport (scanned copy)
  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • One Letter of Recommendation (must be sent directly by referee)

Note: No need to include a research proposal or project outline, even if indicated in the DAAD form.

How to Apply

  1. Check Eligibility
    Complete the Online Eligibility Assessment (OEA) on the official MEG program website.
    • Deadline to complete OEA: October 8, 2025
    • Within one week, you will receive an email regarding your eligibility for the program and DAAD scholarship.
  2. Prepare Application Package
    Combine all required documents into one PDF file and email it to info-meg@unr.uni-freiburg.de
  3. Submit Recommendation Letter
    Your referee should send their letter directly to the same email address. Letters submitted by applicants themselves will not be accepted.
