About the Project – REACCT-CAN
The REACCT-CAN Project (Research and Excellence in Africa Capacity to Control and Treat Cancer) is a transformative, Ethiopia-led cancer research initiative under the Delta Consortium. With partners in Egypt, Tanzania, South Africa, Germany, and the WHO’s IARC, the initiative aims to generate evidence that will improve cancer care and control in Africa. Its vision is to establish Africa-led, interdisciplinary cancer research networks that shape health policy, inform prevention efforts, and enhance access to cancer care across the continent.
Job Summary
The Communications and PR Officer will lead strategic communications for the REACCT-CAN project, developing engaging content, managing stakeholder relations, and amplifying the visibility of the consortium’s research impact. This role involves collaboration across six international research institutions and direct communication with policymakers, scientists, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
As the Communications and Public Relations Officer, you will:
- Develop a comprehensive communication and visibility strategy for the REACCT-CAN project
- Establish a communications protocol for regular updates between consortium partners
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement and documentation of project milestones
- Translate research outputs into compelling content for policymakers, practitioners, and the public
- Write and publish news articles, blogs, social media posts, and web content
- Ensure communications align with REACCT-CAN’s visual identity and core messaging
- Design presentations, infographics, leaflets, and other materials
- Moderate online and in-person discussions
- Work closely with investigators, project managers, and administrators across the consortium
- Perform additional communication and administrative tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Master’s Degree in Public Relations, Public Health Communication, or related fields (e.g., MPH with specialization in Health Promotion)
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, preferably in public health or research projects
- Proven experience in multi-country collaborative or research consortiums
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) and excellent communication skills in local languages
Preferred Skills:
- Strong writing, editing, and public speaking skills
- Experience working with Addis Ababa University is a plus
- Familiarity with Ethiopia’s health system and operations
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and digital media tools
