The British Council is currently inviting qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the following positions.
Position 1: International Expert Trainer
About the Making the Transition to English (MTE) Programme
The British Council is seeking experienced teacher educators and trainers to support the Making the Transition to English (MTE) Project in Ethiopia, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The project aims to strengthen the transition to English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) for Grades 7 and 8 by:
- Improving teachers’ English language proficiency.
- Strengthening teaching and learning practices.
- Developing sustainable teacher professional development systems.
- Building national capacity for Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
The project plans to develop:
- 100 National Expert Trainers (NETs).
- More than 7,000 Transformation Coaches who will support approximately 36,000 teachers across Ethiopia.
To support this initiative, the British Council intends to engage up to six International Expert Trainers (IETs).
Position Details
Contract Type: Consultancy Agreement (Independent Consultant / Non-Permanent Worker)
Work Arrangement:
- Based in Ethiopia
- Some remote delivery from the trainer’s home location
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Position 2: Arts Project Manager
Educational Qualification
Applicants should have:
- University degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
Required Knowledge & Experience
Applicants should have:
- Good knowledge of current trends and practices in at least one arts or creative industry sector.
- Experience working on national arts or creative industry projects.
- Experience managing projects from planning to completion.
- Experience working with external stakeholders.
- Experience using technology in project delivery.
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation.
Desirable Qualifications
- Understanding of current arts trends and practices in the United Kingdom.
- Experience working on international arts projects.

Position 3: Project Officer NFE
Educational Qualification
Applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Desirable).
Required Skills & Experience
Applicants should have:
- Experience working in a project or programme support role.
- Administrative and financial administration experience.
- Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles.
- Ability to support project implementation and reporting.
Language Requirement
- English
- Amharic
