AHRI is a leading biomedical research institute in Ethiopia, established in 1970, conducting clinical trials, diagnostic research, and public health studies to combat infectious diseases. This role supports the Ethiopia Cholera Control and Prevention (ECCP) study, a collaborative project with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), focusing on cholera and diarrheal disease surveillance and vaccine effectiveness assessment.
POSITION: ASSISTANT RESEARCH
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support cholera and diarrheal disease surveillance across designated healthcare facilities
- Conduct participant screening and recruitment based on study inclusion/exclusion criteria
- Facilitate informed consent and provide information to study participants
- Collect, handle, label, and transport biological samples to laboratories
- Accurately document participant data in Case Report Forms (CRFs) and electronic systems
- Conduct follow-up visits for enrolled participants, including household contacts and community controls
- Report adverse events, protocol deviations, and operational challenges
- Participate in data monitoring, validation, and cleaning activities
- Collaborate with local officials, healthcare providers, and community leaders to ensure smooth project implementation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Education: BSc or Master’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related Health Sciences
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in health research or related field
- Skills & Competencies:
- Prior data collection experience in health research is preferred
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems (ODK, REDCap)
- Strong interpersonal and organizational communication skills
- Ability to adapt to dynamic clinical and research environments
- Proficiency in local language (Oromia) and English

- Flexible with working hours, including weekends
- Problem-solving orientation and self-motivation
