The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was established in 1970 through the initiative of Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations and the Ethiopian Ministry of Health. Named after Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, the physician who first described the leprosy bacillus, AHRI is a leading biomedical research institute in Ethiopia. The Institute conducts clinical trials, research capacity building, and technology transfer with impact across Ethiopia and beyond.

Available Positions

1. Junior Researcher (Graphic & Web Designer)

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, or related field
Strong portfolio in graphic design and web/UI design
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
Web tools: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks (React, Vue, Bootstrap)
Ability to create interactive visuals or dashboards (Plotly, D3.js, Tableau)
Strong communication, collaboration, and attention to detail
Preferred: Familiarity with scientific concepts, BioRender, Figma, Canva, and interactive notebook environments

Salary: ETB 10,386 monthly gross
Terms of Employment: One-year contract, full-time, renewable
Duty Station: Addis Ababa

2. Assistant Research (Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology)

Qualifications & Experience:

Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Computational Science, or related field
5+ years research experience in Genomics and Bioinformatics
Experience with pathogen and human genomics
Molecular biology lab skills: DNA/RNA isolation, sequencing, library preparation
Bioinformatics workflows: Nextflow, HPC clusters, programming in Bash, R, Python

Salary: As per organization scale
Terms of Employment: One-year contract, full-time, renewable
Duty Station: Addis Ababa

3. Researcher II – Qualitative Researcher

Qualifications & Experience:

PhD in Sociology, Psychology, Epidemiology, or other Social Sciences
3+ years professional experience in qualitative research, including data collection, transcription, coding, analysis, and report writing
Minimum 3 publication points (list in CV with links)
Experience with qualitative data analysis software and leading health-related qualitative studies
Skills in team building, stakeholder engagement, and excellent English communication

Salary: As per organization scale
Terms of Employment: One-year contract, full-time, renewable
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
