ABOUT THE AFRICAN UNION

The AU Internship Program provides young African professionals and students with hands-on work experience in various AU departments and directorates, helping them gain skills, knowledge, and insight into continental governance and development programs.
POSITION: INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Interns will assist with administrative and technical tasks to support the effective implementation of AU programs, projects, and activities in assigned departments.
Key Departments/Directorates Include:
- Cabinet of the Chairperson & Deputy Chairperson
- Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
- Economic Development, Trade, Industry & Mining (ETIM)
- Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI)
- Infrastructure & Energy (IE)
- Political Affairs, Peace & Security (PAPS)
- Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development (HHS)
- Human Resources Management (HRM)
- Management Information Systems Division
- Office of the Legal Counsel (OLC)
- Women, Gender & Youth (WGY)
- Information & Communication
- New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD)
- And more specialized units across the AU
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Be nationals of an AU Member State.
- Be actively enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s program OR hold a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Be no older than 32 years at the time of selection.
- Be fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese).
- Possess high moral integrity and no serious criminal record.
- Be full-time students or recent graduates.
- Prior work experience is not required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong email and internet research skills
- Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Additional fluency in another AU language is an advantage

TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Internships are unpaid — all travel, accommodation, and living expenses are the intern’s responsibility.
- AU may assist in visa arrangements, but costs are not covered.
- Internship duration: 3 months (renewable once).
- Interns must have personal health insurance for the entire internship period.
