About the Fellowship

The African Union (AU) Digital & Innovation Fellowship is a 12-month immersive program that embeds talented African digital professionals within AU institutions. Fellows support digital transformation, data-driven decision-making, and public sector innovation while contributing to real projects and deliverables.

The 2026/2027 cohort will select 12 fellows across specialized technical tracks starting April 2026.

Fellowship Tracks for 2026/2027

  1. Data Analytics & Monitoring Systems Fellow (AMCOW – Water & Sanitation)
  2. Digital Product & Programme Systems Fellow (AUDA-NEPAD Coordination Unit)
  3. Digital Communications Fellow (Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson)
  4. ERP SAP & Business Intelligence Fellow (AU ERP Unit)
  5. ESTI Full-Stack Development Fellow (Science, Technology & Innovation / ESTI)
  6. HR Digital Systems & Processes Analyst Fellow (Human Resources)
  7. ICD Full-Stack Developer Fellow (Information & Communication Directorate)
  8. MIS Business Analyst Fellow (Management Information Systems)
  9. MIS Full-Stack Developer Fellow (Management Information Systems)
  10. ODG Data Analyst Fellow (Office of the Director General)
  11. WGYD Data Analyst Fellow (Women, Gender & Youth Directorate)
  12. WGYD Full-Stack Developer Fellow (Women, Gender & Youth Directorate)

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of an African Union Member State and currently based in Africa
  • Be under 35 years old
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and innovative tech skills
  • Have relevant experience in technology, data, or digital innovation
  • Be able to commit 12 months, including relocation to Addis Ababa
  • Be willing to travel for program activities
  • Be proficient in at least one AU official language (English strongly preferred)

The program encourages applications from women and persons with disabilities.

Benefits & Support

  • Monthly stipend of 2,500 Euros
  • In-kind equipment budget up to 800 Euros
  • Individual learning budget of 500 Euros
  • Participation in bootcamps and structured program activities
  • Exposure to AU institutions and professional mentorship

Fellowship Timeline

  • February 2026: Applications open
  • March 2026: Applications close & selection process begins
  • April 2026: Kick-off bootcamp in Addis Ababa
  • April 2026 – March 2027: Placement & fellowship activities
  • March 2027: Graduation / close-out activities
