WFP Ethiopia plays a critical role in logistics, food supply chain operations, and national humanitarian response coordination.
Position: Logistics Intern (Customs)
This internship provides hands-on experience in customs clearance operations, import documentation, and end-to-end logistics management. The role is ideal for young professionals pursuing careers in supply chain, logistics, or humanitarian operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customs Documentation & Clearance
- Prepare, review, and organize shipping documents, import permits, and Ethiopian Customs Declarations (ECDs).
- Coordinate with Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents to ensure timely submission of documents.
- Support the submission of required documentation to government authorities.
2. Shipment Tracking & Reporting
- Track incoming shipments and obtain regular status updates from C&F agents.
- Monitor declaration closures and container guarantee processes.
- Update shipment trackers and assist in preparing periodic logistics reports.
3. Record Management & Reconciliation
- Maintain updated and well-organized filing systems for customs and shipping documents.
- Reconcile received commodity quantities with customs declaration balances.
- Verify service invoices submitted by C&F and superintendent companies.
4. Administrative & Support Tasks
- Assist with general logistics administrative duties as required.
- Support internal communication and coordination across supply chain teams.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following:
1. Current Students
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s program (completed at least two years), or
- Enrolled in a master’s program.
- Must have attended classes within the last 12 months.
- Preferred study fields: Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or related areas.
2. Recent Graduates
- Completed an undergraduate or graduate program within the last six months.
- Must have attended classes within the last 12 months of study.
Additional Requirements
- Fluency in English and Amharic.
- Must be willing and able to work at the duty station.
- Not a child or sibling of a WFP employee.
- Educational qualifications must be from recognized institutions (UNESCO or national authorities).
