About WHO Ethiopia
The World Health Organization (WHO) plays a critical role in strengthening global health systems and emergency responses. WHO Ethiopia’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Programme (EPPR) is now implementing the Ethio-Pandemic Multi-Sectoral Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (EPPR) initiative, funded by the Pandemic Fund. This project aims to bolster Ethiopia’s readiness to manage public health emergencies and pandemics.
Position Summary: Project Manager (Pandemic Fund)
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing the EPPR initiative. The role involves financial and project management, stakeholder coordination, donor reporting, and leading pandemic-related interventions in collaboration with government and health partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational planning, budgeting, implementation, and monitoring of the EPPR initiative
- Coordinate with internal WHO teams and external partners including MoH, UN agencies, and NGOs
- Develop and manage project work plans and ensure alignment with donor and WHO requirements
- Oversee fund utilization, ensuring transparency and compliance with WHO guidelines
- Prepare technical reports, donor briefs, performance updates, and evaluation documents
- Support mobilization of resources and sustainable financing efforts
- Represent the program in strategic meetings and project reviews
- Supervise project execution and ensure quality delivery across the implementation cycle
- Perform other tasks as assigned under the EPPR framework
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Essential: Master’s degree in Public Health, Medicine, Management, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field
- Desirable: Postgraduate training in Public Health or Project Management
Experience:
- Essential:
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in project and grant management
- Experience in budgeting, donor reporting, or financial planning
- Involvement in public health or emergency preparedness projects
- Desirable:
- Experience with WHO, UN agencies, or humanitarian NGOs
- Proven record in managing multi-stakeholder programs or joint initiatives
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in project and financial management systems
- Expertise in strategic planning and results-based reporting
- Strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and team collaboration skills
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-sectoral health initiatives
- Excellent English communication (written and spoken)
- Familiarity with Ethiopian public health and donor landscapes
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to synthesize data and deliver clear presentations and reports
