About UNOPS
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Africa Regional Office oversees the delivery of more than 250 projects across 40 countries in Africa, with a strong focus on fragile and conflict-affected regions.
With over 1,000 personnel across five multi-country offices covering North, West, Central, Eastern and Southern Africa, and the Horn of Africa, UNOPS supports national development priorities through programs in climate action, health, infrastructure, peace and security, middle-income country support, and small island developing states (SIDS).
UNOPS plays a key role in delivering sustainable infrastructure, project management, and technical support services to governments and development partners.
Position 1: Civil Engineer
Educational Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, or related fields with at least 2 years of relevant experience, OR
- Master’s degree in any of the above fields with 0 years of relevant experience
Desired Qualifications
- Professional certification or membership in a recognized civil engineering association (national or international) is an advantage
Experience Requirements
Required Experience
- Experience in civil engineering, structural works, construction supervision, or related technical fields
Desired Experience
- Experience working in multicultural environments or UN organizations
- Experience in development or humanitarian projects
Position 2: Programme Management Officer
Educational Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Marketing, Economics, Management, International Affairs, Political Science, Development Studies, or related fields with 2 years of experience
- Master’s degree in related fields with at least 1 year of experience
Desired Qualifications
- PRINCE2® Foundation or PRINCE2® Practitioner certification is an advantage
Experience Requirements
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in donor relations or business development
Desired Experience
- Experience working in multicultural or UN system environments
- Experience in partnership development and legal or commercial agreements
- Experience liaising with governments and international organizations
Key Responsibilities (General Overview)
Civil Engineer
- Support infrastructure design, supervision, and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with technical and safety standards
- Assist in project implementation and reporting
- Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders
Programme Management Officer
- Support project planning and implementation
- Manage donor relations and partnership coordination
- Prepare reports and strategic documentation
- Liaise with government and development partners
- Support business development and project proposals
