About the Organization
The United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (OSE-HoA) works to promote peace, stability, and regional cooperation across the Horn of Africa. It supports political dialogue, conflict prevention, and climate-security initiatives, collaborating with governments and international partners in countries like Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti.
Position 1: Political Affairs Intern
Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program
OR - Be in the final year or have completed a Bachelor’s degree
Skills
- Strong analytical and research skills (political science, international relations, etc.)
- Understanding of Horn of Africa political and security dynamics
- Knowledge of climate–conflict–security linkages
- Excellent English communication (written & verbal)
- Proficiency in:
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
- Knowledge of tools like Power BI, Tableau, Adobe InDesign is an advantage
Work Conditions
- No prior work experience required
- Duty Station: Ethiopia (Other Cities)
Position 2: Climate, Peace and Security Intern
Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program
OR - Be in the final year or have completed a Bachelor’s degree
Skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Understanding of climate change, conflict, and security issues
- Familiarity with Horn of Africa regional dynamics
- Excellent English communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Office tools
- Knowledge of data visualization tools is an asset
Additional Advantage
- Awareness of climate–peace–security challenges in the region
- Basic experience in:
- Project tracking
- Workplan updates
- Budget monitoring
