Role Summary
The Senior Trust & Safety Policy Manager will play a critical role in developing and enhancing policies that ensure safe, inclusive, and resilient online communities across Wikimedia projects. This position involves close collaboration with internal teams, volunteers, and external stakeholders to uphold community standards and respond to emerging challenges
Key Responsibilities
- Review and enhance internal trust and safety policies to align with Wikimedia’s values and community needs.
- Collaborate with the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) and project communities to promote adherence and provide training.
- Conduct safety risk assessments for new Wikimedia products and features.
- Participate in confidential case reviews to inform policy recommendations and ensure appropriate application of standards.
- Monitor community norms and emerging trends to support proactive policy development.
- Participate in a team rotation to ensure 24/7 emergency coverage, assessing and escalating high-risk threats as necessary.
- Engage with academic and NGO partners to build shared understanding of trust and safety best practices.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation within online communities.
- Strong understanding of community resilience, safety, and governance.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
- Experience managing cross-departmental initiatives and multiple policy projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote, global team environment.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed for emergency response.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Wikimedia projects and the free knowledge movement.
- Experience with the Universal Code of Conduct and its implementation.
- Proficiency in additional languages, especially Hindi, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, or Spanish.
- Background in law, public policy, or related fields.
