Job Summary

The Nutrition Officer contributes to MTI’s mission by ensuring quality nutrition services for vulnerable refugee and host populations in Ethiopia. This role supports healthcare centres, health posts, and communities to ensure effective implementation and delivery of nutrition services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, analyze, document, and report on the nutrition situation in the community
  • Coordinate technical and logistical support with the Woreda health sector
  • Promote gender equity and equality in all nutrition activities
  • Train Health Extension Workers (HEWs) on CMAM (Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition) and IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding)
  • Provide technical support for SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) management
  • Treat beneficiaries in OTP, SC, and TSFP programs following national and international protocols
  • Supervise and support CMAM and IYCF activities, ensuring coverage targets are met:
    • Rural: ≥50%
    • Urban: ≥70%
    • IDP/Refugee Camps: ≥90%
  • Maintain records, cards, and registration books accurately
  • Ensure proper delivery of nutrition items to facilities
  • Promote accountability and safeguarding practices in program implementation
  • Utilize volunteers effectively and perform additional duties as assigned

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Health Officer, or Nutrition
  • Valid professional license
  • TOT on 2019 National AM management protocol

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years at a Primary Health Care facility
  • At least 1 year managing nutrition services within an NGO
  • Experience with INGOs is an advantage

Physical & Work Environment

  • Possible travel to remote or insecure areas with limited facilities
