Scholarship Overview
Are you a high-achieving student from Africa facing financial barriers to higher education? The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University is now accepting applications for the 2025/2026 academic year.
This prestigious program offers fully funded scholarships to academically talented, economically disadvantaged youth who are committed to giving back to their communities.
Scholarships Available
- 190 Undergraduate Scholarships
- 11 Master’s Scholarships
Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate Scholarships
To be eligible, you must:
- Apply for private sponsorship admission to Makerere University (main campus) for 2025/2026.
- Be financially needy and not receiving any other scholarship.
- Be 28 years or younger (or 32 for refugees, students with disabilities, or internally displaced youth).
- Meet at least one of the following:
- Completed high school in an African country
- Hold a Diploma (2nd Class/Credit or higher)
- Passed Makerere’s mature age entry exams in 2023 or 2024
- Have no prior undergraduate degree.
- Show leadership potential or community service involvement.
- Refugees must have valid refugee identification.
- Apply to a prioritized program (see the application form).
Master’s Scholarships
To be eligible, you must:
- Apply for a Master’s degree at Makerere University (main campus) for 2025/2026.
- Be 35 years or younger (or 40 for refugees or students with disabilities).
- Hold an undergraduate degree from an African institution.
- Be financially disadvantaged and not enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree.
- Demonstrate leadership and/or community service.
- Refugees must provide official documentation.
- Apply to a prioritized Master’s program listed in the application form.
