Scholarship Overview

Are you a high-achieving student from Africa facing financial barriers to higher education? The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University is now accepting applications for the 2025/2026 academic year.

This prestigious program offers fully funded scholarships to academically talented, economically disadvantaged youth who are committed to giving back to their communities.

Scholarships Available

  • 190 Undergraduate Scholarships
  • 11 Master’s Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Scholarships

To be eligible, you must:

  • Apply for private sponsorship admission to Makerere University (main campus) for 2025/2026.
  • Be financially needy and not receiving any other scholarship.
  • Be 28 years or younger (or 32 for refugees, students with disabilities, or internally displaced youth).
  • Meet at least one of the following:
    • Completed high school in an African country
    • Hold a Diploma (2nd Class/Credit or higher)
    • Passed Makerere’s mature age entry exams in 2023 or 2024
  • Have no prior undergraduate degree.
  • Show leadership potential or community service involvement.
  • Refugees must have valid refugee identification.
  • Apply to a prioritized program (see the application form).

Master’s Scholarships

To be eligible, you must:

  • Apply for a Master’s degree at Makerere University (main campus) for 2025/2026.
  • Be 35 years or younger (or 40 for refugees or students with disabilities).
  • Hold an undergraduate degree from an African institution.
  • Be financially disadvantaged and not enrolled in or completed a Master’s degree.
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or community service.
  • Refugees must provide official documentation.
  • Apply to a prioritized Master’s program listed in the application form.
