Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp, a multinational mining company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange with operations across Ethiopia, Mali, and Côte d’Ivoire.
KGM holds a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three Exploration Licenses for its Ethiopian project, located in western Ethiopia, approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa and 90 km northwest of Assosa in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. The company is actively engaged in mine development and exploration to expand its gold mining operations in Ethiopia.
Position: Junior Legal Associate
Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Associate to support its legal, regulatory, and compliance functions. The successful candidate will assist in providing legal guidance, reviewing contracts, and ensuring adherence to Ethiopian mining and corporate laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and provide analysis on corporate, mining, and environmental laws.
- Draft, review, and interpret contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Support compliance with Ethiopian regulatory requirements and international mining standards.
- Liaise with government agencies, regulatory authorities, and external legal counsel.
- Assist in documentation and recordkeeping related to mining operations and corporate governance.
- Provide legal support during inspections, audits, and reporting processes.
Qualification Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B).
- Additional certifications in mining or environmental law are an asset.
Experience:
- 0–2 years of legal experience, preferably in corporate or regulatory law.
- Prior exposure to the extractive or mining industry is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
- Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail.
Other Requirements:
- Familiarity with Ethiopian mining laws and regulations.
- High ethical standards and professional integrity.
- Willingness to travel to remote mining sites when required.
