About the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS)

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, is one of the most prestigious PhD funding opportunities worldwide. Since its inception, HKPFS has attracted top global talent to Hong Kong’s leading universities, fostering cutting-edge research and academic excellence.

International students with strong academic backgrounds, research potential, leadership skills, and communication abilities are encouraged to apply. Both MPhil and Bachelor’s graduates (Direct PhD) are eligible.

Financial Benefits

The HKPFS 2026 is a fully funded fellowship covering:

• Annual Stipend: USD $42,460 (HK$331,200)
• Research & Conference Travel Allowance: USD $1,760 per year (HK$13,800)
• Duration: Up to 3 years (extension possible through host universities)
• No Application Fee required

How to Apply

Step 1: Initial Application (HKPFS System)

• Open: September 1, 2025 (12:00 noon, Hong Kong Time)
• Deadline: December 1, 2025 (12:00 noon, Hong Kong Time)

Step 2: Submit Applications to Universities

Applicants must apply directly to their chosen universities (up to two programs at one or two universities) before the respective deadlines, using the HKPFS Reference Number obtained from Step 1.
