About the Scholarship
Applications are now open for the Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarships 2027 in Japan for international students. The scholarship is funded by the Japanese Government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
International students from countries having diplomatic relations with Japan can apply for fully funded Master’s and PhD degree programs at Hokkaido University.
The scholarship supports studies across multiple academic divisions including:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Materials Science
- Applied Physics
- Environmental & Resource Engineering
- Architecture & Design
- Related engineering and technology fields
Knowledge of Japanese language is not mandatory, and IELTS/TOEFL is also not required. Applicants may submit an English proficiency certificate from their previous university.

What is the MEXT Scholarship?
MEXT stands for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Open to international students residing outside Japan
- Applicants must complete previous degree before October 2027
- Bachelor’s degree required for Master’s application
- Master’s degree required for PhD application
- Minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0 or 80%
- Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1991
