The Hansen Leadership Exchange Program (HLEP) 2026 is a fully funded international summer leadership program hosted in the United States. The program brings together outstanding young leaders from around the world to promote international cooperation, peacebuilding, and cross-cultural understanding.
About the Hansen Leadership Institute
The Hansen Leadership Institute (HLI) is a prestigious global leadership initiative funded by the Fred J. Hansen Foundation. The program focuses on developing future leaders committed to diplomacy, international relations, conflict resolution, and global peace.
The program is not an academic degree program, and applicants from all academic backgrounds are welcome. No IELTS or TOEFL is required.

Eligibility Criteria
For International Applicants (Non-U.S. Students)
Applicants must:
- Be upper-division undergraduate students (minimum 2 years completed) or graduate students
- Have a professional interest in international relations, diplomacy, international development, or related fields
- Be between 20 and 26 years old at the start of the program
- Demonstrate leadership potential through community, national, or regional engagement
- Have English proficiency verified in writing by an academic advisor
- Hold a valid international passport (and U.S. visa if required)
- Preference is given to applicants who have never visited the United States
Applicants from regions affected by conflict or social strife are strongly encouraged to apply.
For U.S. Applicants
Applicants must:
- Be upper-division undergraduate or graduate students
- Be between 20 and 26 years old
- Demonstrate leadership potential and community involvement
- Have an interest in international relations, diplomacy, or global development
Selection Criteria
Applicants are evaluated based on:
- Leadership potential and community involvement
- Commitment to peacebuilding and international cooperation
- Academic background and motivation
- Communication and interpersonal skills
Only fully completed applications will be reviewed by the selection committee.
