This vacancy is for a Junior Program Officer to be seconded to the African Union Commission (AUC) under FCA-AU partnership, contributing directly to peace, security, and inclusion on the African continent.

Positions : Junior Program Officer

Job Summary

As a Junior Program Officer, you will support the African Union Commission’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (PAPS) with analytical, operational, and coordination tasks. You’ll contribute to efforts in conflict prevention, youth and women peace and security agendas (YPS/WPS), and institutional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to political analysis and evidence-based reporting on peace and security issues in Africa.
• Support the implementation and mainstreaming of Youth and Women Peace and Security (YPS/WPS) agendas.
• Engage in data processing, analytical reporting, and coordination with AU, RECs/RMs, and other stakeholders.
• Provide technical support in policy formulation and conflict resolution mechanisms.
• Collaborate with government bodies, NGOs, and multilateral institutions in peace and security operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Peace & Security Studies
  • International Relations
  • Political Science
  • Crisis Management
  • Public Policy
  • Law, Public Administration, or Social Studies
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in political analysis, peacebuilding, or conflict resolution.
• Master’s degree is a strong advantage.

Desired Experience

• Experience with governments, NGOs, think tanks, or international institutions in peace and security.
• Familiarity with the AU peace and security architecture and RECs/RMs is highly desirable.
• Background in youth or women peace and security work (YPS/WPS) is preferred.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and data-processing skills.
• Ability to prepare clear, evidence-based reports.
• Knowledge of African peace and security dynamics and institutional frameworks.
• Excellent communication, writing, and reporting abilities.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and internet-based research.
• Comfortable working in multi-cultural, multi-agency environments.

Language Requirements

• Proficiency in at least one AU working language (English, French, Arabic, Portuguese).
• Knowledge of additional AU languages is an advantage.

Contract Details

• Duration: 1 year (with possibility of renewal)
• Probation: First 3 months
• Location: AUC Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
