We are currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced candidate to lead our English and School Education portfolio in Ethiopia.

Position: Head of English & School Education, Ethiopia

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, strategy, and implementation of education and English language programs in Ethiopia
  • Oversee externally funded programs and manage project budgets, monitoring, and reporting
  • Lead stakeholder engagement with government, donors, academia, and multilateral partners
  • Integrate Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks to improve impact and inform strategy
  • Represent British Council at national and international events, contributing to thought leadership
  • Drive innovation in online teacher development, school leadership initiatives, and curriculum support
  • Collaborate with UK education sector and global teams to localize and deliver impactful education solutions

Required Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Postgraduate degree in English, education, development studies, project management, or related fields
  • Strong experience managing education projects, including externally funded or donor-driven programs
  • Proven track record of MEL integration in program strategy and reporting
  • Stakeholder engagement with donors, government ministries, academics, and multilateral organizations

Desirable:

  • TEFL-Q (Diploma in teaching English as a foreign/second language per UK accreditation)
  • Recognized project management certification
  • Experience with school leadership, teacher training, or online learning programs
  • Experience writing technical proposals or publishing in academic journals
  • Background in budget development for donor-funded programs
