The African Union (AU), the continental body promoting Africa’s integration, sustainable development, and unity, invites applications from citizens of AU Member States for its Internship Program 2026. This program provides young professionals and graduates with hands-on experience in the administration and technical support of AU programs, projects, and activities.

Position: Internship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Actively enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program, OR have obtained a Bachelor’s or advanced/postgraduate (Master) degree in a relevant field.
  • Must be nationals of an AU Member State.
  • Full-time students currently enrolled in the final year of Bachelor or graduate programs are eligible.
  • Fluency in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese) is required.
  • Age limit: 32 years at the time of selection.
  • Applicants must demonstrate high moral integrity and conduct.
  • No prior work experience is required.

  • Office of the Director General
  • Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETIM)
  • Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI)
  • Infrastructure & Energy (IE)
  • Political Affairs, Peace & Security (PAPS)
  • Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development (HHS)
  • Human Resources Management (HRM)
  • Operations Support Services / Management Information Systems / ERP
  • Conference Management & Publications (CMP)
  • Safety & Security Services / Citizens & Diaspora (CIDO)
  • Medical & Health Services / Financial Control Unit
  • Strategic Planning & Delivery / Internal Oversight / Quality Assurance
  • Ethics, Integrity & Standards / Secretary to the Commission / Legal Counsel (OLC)
  • Office of Protocol / Partnership & Resource Mobilization
  • Women, Gender & Youth (WGY) / Information & Communication

Terms & Conditions:

  • The AU does not provide financial support; interns are responsible for travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Reasonable assistance may be provided for entry and residence visas.
  • The internship is initially for 3 months, renewable once.
  • Interns are not entitled to travel or medical coverage; individual insurance is required.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in email and internet applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in one AU working language; knowledge of additional AU languages is an advantage.
