Position: Junior Forestry Officer (JFO)
The Junior Forestry Officer will assist the Senior Forestry Officer in planning, implementing, and monitoring forestry and agroforestry interventions across targeted Kebeles in the Gamo and Gofa Zones. The role requires strong technical, coordination, and community engagement skills, working closely with government structures, project teams, and stakeholders to expand forest coverage and improve sustainable land use.
Qualifications
- BSc/BA degree from a recognized university in Agriculture, Economics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, or related fields
- Minimum of three years relevant experience, preferably in an NGO environment
- Strong knowledge of forestry, agroforestry, and community-based natural resource management
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection and Analysis
- Gather and analyze data on land use, forest coverage, agro-ecological conditions, and socio-economic factors at woreda and Kebele levels
- Identify communal and private lands suitable for forestry activities
Nursery and Seedling Management
- Assess the condition of government nurseries and prepare input plans for seedling production
- Collect information on existing and preferred tree species in intervention Kebeles and submit recommendations to the Senior Forestry Officer
- Identify gaps in nursery tools, seeds, and labor based on agro-ecological characteristics
Implementation and Coordination
- Prepare and manage day-to-day implementation schedules for forestry interventions
- Collaborate with woreda and Kebele technical teams, administrative bodies, and local communities
- Coordinate with the CLTS team to align forestry activities with CLTS-triggering events
- Prepare backup community mobilization plans in Kebeles requiring additional support
Capacity Building and Community Engagement
- Train nursery workers and agricultural experts on technical and managerial aspects of seedling production
- Facilitate agreements and recruitment processes for nursery workers
- Ensure efficient seedling production, planting, and monitoring
